Whose company is Nintendo?

Fusajiro Yamauchi opened Nintendo Koppai in Kyoto in September 1889 to produce hanafuda, traditional Japanese flower cards. The business stayed in the family, and Fusajiro’s great-grandson Hiroshi Yamauchi, who became president in 1949, pushed the company into toys and then electronic games. Nintendo tried ventures including a taxi company and instant rice before finding success with toys like the Ultra Hand. It entered video games in the 1970s and released Donkey Kong in 1981, the NES (Famicom) in 1983 and the Game Boy in 1989. Nintendo is now one of the world’s most famous video game companies, behind Mario, Zelda and Pokémon.
