Whose idea was Google?

Page and Brin met at Stanford University in 1995 and began working on a search engine called BackRub, which ranked web pages by counting the links pointing to them. This system, called PageRank, gave much better results than rival search engines. They renamed it Google, a play on googol, the number 1 followed by 100 zeros, to suggest the huge amount of information on the web. The company started in a rented garage in Menlo Park, California, after an investor wrote them a 100,000 dollar cheque. Today Google handles well over 8 billion searches a day and is part of the parent company Alphabet, created in 2015.
