Whose company is Tesla?

Eberhard and Tarpenning set up Tesla Motors in July 2003 in California to prove electric cars could be fast and desirable. Elon Musk led the first major funding round in 2004 and became chairman, while JB Straubel and Ian Wright also joined early. After a legal settlement in 2009, all five men can be called co-founders. The first car, the Roadster, launched in 2008, and Musk took over as CEO that year. The company is named after Serbian-American inventor Nikola Tesla, whose alternating current induction motor inspired the design.
