Whose idea was Pokémon?

Tajiri grew up in Machida, on the edge of Tokyo, where he loved collecting insects in fields and ponds. As the countryside disappeared under new buildings, he wanted children to experience that joy of collecting through a video game. Seeing the Game Boy link cable, he imagined creatures travelling between two consoles, which led to the idea of trading. The game took about six years to make, with artist Ken Sugimori designing most of the original 151 creatures. Pokémon, short for Pocket Monsters, is now estimated to be the highest-grossing media franchise in history.
