Whose invention were blue jeans?

Jacob Davis, a tailor in Reno, Nevada, began putting copper rivets on the stress points of work trousers, such as pocket corners, to stop them tearing. He bought his denim from Levi Strauss, a Bavarian-born dry goods merchant in San Francisco, and asked him to help pay for a patent. The two received US patent 139,121 on 20 May 1873, a date often celebrated as the birthday of blue jeans. Levi Strauss & Co. began manufacturing the riveted “waist overalls” for miners, farmers and labourers. The famous Levi’s 501 style name dates from the 1890s, and jeans became youth fashion in the 1950s.
