Whose invention was the microwave oven?

Percy Spencer was working on magnetrons, the tubes that generate microwaves for radar, at the Raytheon company. While standing near an active magnetron he noticed that a snack bar in his pocket had melted. He experimented by pointing the tube at popcorn kernels, which popped, and an egg, which reportedly exploded. Raytheon filed a patent in 1945 and in 1947 sold the first commercial microwave, the “Radarange”, which stood nearly 1.8 metres tall and weighed about 340 kilograms. Smaller countertop models arrived in 1967, and microwaves became common kitchen appliances during the 1970s and 1980s.
