Whose creation is The Simpsons?

Matt Groening was asked to pitch animated shorts for “The Tracey Ullman Show”, and reportedly sketched the family in the lobby while waiting to meet producer James L. Brooks. The shorts began in April 1987, and the half-hour series premiered on Fox in December 1989. Groening named Homer, Marge, Lisa and Maggie after his father, mother and two sisters, while Bart is an anagram of “brat”. Developed with Brooks and Sam Simon, it became the longest-running American animated series and sitcom. It has aired more than 750 episodes and won dozens of Emmy Awards.
