Where Is Victoria Falls?

Victoria Falls, known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya ("The Smoke That Thunders"), is located on the Zambezi River where it forms the border between Zambia (Livingstone) and Zimbabwe (Victoria Falls town). The falls are approximately 1,708 metres wide and 108 metres tall, creating the largest sheet of falling water in the world by combined width and height. During peak flow (February to May), over 500 million litres of water per minute cascade over the basalt cliff, producing a spray plume visible from up to 50 km away. Scottish explorer David Livingstone became the first European to see the falls in November 1855.
