It is one of the most fertile and densely populated regions on Earth, home to well over 100 million people. The delta also contains the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world, which shelters the Bengal tiger. Low-lying and flat, the region is highly vulnerable to flooding and rising seas.
