Where is the Statue of Liberty?

The Statue of Liberty sits on Liberty Island, a small island at the mouth of the Hudson River in New York Harbor. Although the island lies closer to the New Jersey shore, it is legally part of New York and is managed by the US National Park Service. The statue was a gift from the people of France, designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi with an iron framework engineered by Gustave Eiffel, and was dedicated on 28 October 1886. The copper figure is about 46 metres tall, reaching around 93 metres from the ground to the tip of the torch. Visitors reach the island only by ferry, and 354 steps lead up to the crown.
