Where is Mount Rushmore?

The monument features 18-metre-tall faces of four US presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum began carving in 1927, and after his death in March 1941 his son Lincoln Borglum oversaw the final work until it stopped that October. Around 400 workers removed about 410,000 tonnes of granite, mostly using dynamite. It was originally intended to show the presidents down to the waist, but funding ran out. The mountain lies in land sacred to the Lakota Sioux, who called the peak the Six Grandfathers.
