Where is the Arctic Circle?

The Arctic Circle currently lies at about 66°34′ north and marks the southern limit of the area where the Sun stays above the horizon for at least one full day in summer and below it for at least one full day in winter. It passes through eight countries: Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, the United States (Alaska), Canada, Denmark (through Greenland) and Iceland (through the island of Grímsey). Its exact position depends on the tilt of Earth’s axis, which wobbles slightly over time. At present the circle is drifting north by roughly 14 to 15 metres a year. The Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Finland, is built right on the line.
