Where is Lapland?

Lapland is the traditional homeland of the Sámi, the only Indigenous people of the European Union, who have herded reindeer there for centuries. Finnish Lapland is the country's largest and northernmost region, with Rovaniemi as its capital. Above the Arctic Circle, the Sun does not set for weeks in summer, while in midwinter it stays below the horizon for a period called polar night, or kaamos in Finnish. The region is one of Europe's best places to see the northern lights. Rovaniemi promotes itself as the official hometown of Santa Claus, attracting visitors from around the world.
