The Full Story
Most of the Dead Sea Scrolls are kept in the Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. The scrolls were discovered beginning in 1947 in caves near Qumran, on the northwestern shore of the Dead Sea. They include ancient Jewish religious texts and biblical manuscripts that are over 2,000 years old. The climate of the Dead Sea region helped preserve the manuscripts exceptionally well in the caves. Because of their age and importance, they are among the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th century.
