Where is Great Zimbabwe?

Great Zimbabwe was built between about the 11th and 15th centuries by ancestors of the Shona people and was the capital of a powerful trading kingdom. Its most famous structure, the Great Enclosure, has granite walls up to about 11 metres high, built without any mortar. The city traded gold and ivory with the Swahili coast, and archaeologists have found Chinese porcelain and Persian glass there. At its height it may have housed around 10,000 to 18,000 people. The modern country took its name from the site, and a soapstone bird carving found there appears on Zimbabwe's flag.
