Whose opera is The Magic Flute?

The opera is a Singspiel, a German-language work that mixes singing with spoken dialogue. It follows Prince Tamino and the bird-catcher Papageno on a quest to rescue Pamina, with the help of a magic flute and magic bells. Schikaneder, who wrote the words, also ran the theatre and sang the role of Papageno at the premiere. The Queen of the Night’s aria is famous for reaching a high F, one of the highest notes in standard opera. Mozart died on 5 December 1791, just over two months after the premiere, at the age of 35.
