Thriller was released on 30 November 1982 and produced by Quincy Jones. An estimated 70 million copies have been sold worldwide, far more than any other album. Seven of its nine tracks, including Billie Jean, Beat It and Thriller, became US top-10 singles. In 1984 Jackson won a record eight Grammy Awards in a single night. Its 14-minute Thriller music video, directed by John Landis, became the first music video selected for the US National Film Registry in 2009. Within the US, the Eagles Greatest Hits 1971 to 1975 now holds the certification record.
