Whose opera is The Marriage of Figaro?

Mozart composed The Marriage of Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) in 1785–86, and it premiered at the Burgtheater in Vienna on 1 May 1786. The Italian libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte was based on a 1784 comedy by the French playwright Pierre Beaumarchais, which had been controversial for mocking the aristocracy. The four-act comic opera follows the servants Figaro and Susanna as they outwit their employer, Count Almaviva, on their wedding day. Mozart and Da Ponte later worked together on two more operas, Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte. Figaro remains one of the most frequently performed operas in the world.
