Whose Creation Is Doctor Who?

Doctor Who first aired on BBC television on 23 November 1963, the day after the assassination of US President John F. Kennedy. BBC head of drama Sydney Newman developed it with writers C. E. Webber and Donald Wilson as a family science-fiction show. Verity Lambert became its first producer, at the time the BBC's youngest drama producer. The hero, a time-travelling alien known as the Doctor, flies the TARDIS, which looks like a police box but is bigger inside. The idea of 'regeneration', introduced in 1966, allows new actors to take over the role.
