Which dog breed is the most popular?

The American Kennel Club ranks breeds by registrations each year. The Labrador Retriever held the top spot for a record 31 consecutive years, from 1991 to 2021. In 2022 the French Bulldog took first place, and it stayed there in 2023 and 2024. Frenchies are popular for their small size, bat-like ears, playful personality and suitability for apartment living. However, vets warn that their flat faces can cause breathing problems, and the breed often needs careful care. Labradors remain hugely popular around the world as family dogs and working guide dogs.
