Which is the tallest animal?

The giraffe holds the title of tallest land animal, with males reaching about 5.5 meters in height. Much of that comes from its extraordinary neck, yet — remarkably — a giraffe neck contains just seven vertebrae, the same number as in a human neck, only vastly elongated. To pump blood up to a brain two meters above the heart, the giraffe has a powerful heart and specialized blood-pressure control. Newborn calves are already about 1.8 meters tall and can stand within an hour of birth. Their height lets them browse leaves few other animals can reach.
