Which is the largest land predator?

The polar bear is the largest land-based carnivore on Earth, with large males weighing up to about 700 kilograms and standing over three metres tall on their hind legs. Superbly adapted to the Arctic, they have thick fat and dense fur, and hunt seals from the sea ice. The Kodiak brown bear rivals it in size and is sometimes considered a close second. Polar bears rely on sea ice to hunt, which makes them especially vulnerable to a warming climate.
