The falls are made up of around 275 individual waterfalls spread along a curving edge nearly 3 kilometres long. The most dramatic section, the Devil’s Throat, is a U-shaped chasm where water plunges about 80 metres. Roughly 80 percent of the falls lie on the Argentine side, while Brazil offers the widest panoramic views. National parks on both sides, surrounded by subtropical rainforest, are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Its name comes from the Guaraní words for big water.
