Where is Banff National Park?

Banff National Park covers about 6,600 square kilometres of mountains, glaciers, forests and lakes in western Alberta, along the border with British Columbia. It was founded in 1885, after railway workers came across natural hot springs in 1883, making it Canada’s first national park. Its most famous sights include the turquoise Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, coloured by fine glacial rock flour suspended in the water. The town of Banff sits inside the park and is one of the few towns located within a Canadian national park. Banff is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site and receives millions of visitors each year.
