When did the Hindenburg disaster happen?

The Hindenburg was the largest aircraft ever flown, about 245 metres long, and was filled with highly flammable hydrogen gas. As it approached its mooring mast after a transatlantic flight, it suddenly burst into flames and was engulfed in about 30 to 40 seconds. Of the 97 people on board, 35 died, along with one member of the ground crew. Reporter Herbert Morrison's emotional radio commentary, including the words 'Oh, the humanity!', became one of the most famous broadcasts in history. The disaster effectively ended the era of passenger airships.
