Whose waltz is The Blue Danube?

The Blue Danube, officially titled An der schönen blauen Donau, was composed by Johann Strauss II, known as the Waltz King. It was first performed in Vienna in February 1867, originally as a choral piece with humorous lyrics, and soon became hugely popular in its orchestral form. It is so closely linked with Austria that it is often called the country’s unofficial national anthem. The Vienna Philharmonic traditionally plays it as an encore at its New Year’s Concert, broadcast around the world. Film director Stanley Kubrick used it memorably for scenes of spacecraft in 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968.
