Whose painting is The Last Supper?

Leonardo was commissioned by Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, to decorate the dining hall of the Dominican convent. The mural shows the dramatic moment Jesus announces that one of his twelve apostles will betray him, with each figure reacting differently. Instead of the traditional fresco method on wet plaster, Leonardo experimented with tempera and oil on dry plaster so he could work slowly, but the paint began flaking within decades. The painting measures about 4.6 by 8.8 metres and survived an Allied bomb in 1943 that destroyed much of the hall, protected by sandbags. A 21-year restoration finished in 1999, and visitors today get only about 15 minutes inside in small groups.
