Whose Painting Is Nighthawks?

Edward Hopper completed Nighthawks in early 1942, showing four people in a brightly lit diner on an empty city street late at night. Hopper said the scene was suggested by a restaurant on Greenwich Avenue in New York, though the diner was simplified and enlarged. The Art Institute of Chicago bought the painting within months for $3,000, and it remains there today.
