Whose laws describe planetary motion?

The German astronomer Johannes Kepler formulated the three laws of planetary motion in the early 17th century, using the remarkably precise observations of the planets recorded by Tycho Brahe. Keplers first law states that planets move in ellipses with the Sun at one focus, overturning the ancient belief in perfect circular orbits. His second law describes how a planet sweeps out equal areas in equal times, moving faster when nearer the Sun. His third law relates a planets orbital period to its distance from the Sun. Decades later, Isaac Newton showed that all three laws follow naturally from his law of universal gravitation.
