Whose model showed the Earth orbits the Sun?

In 1543, the Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus published a bold idea: that the Sun, not the Earth, sits at the centre, with the planets — including Earth — orbiting around it. This heliocentric model challenged more than a thousand years of belief that everything revolved around the Earth.
