Whose design is Fallingwater?

Frank Lloyd Wright designed the house in 1935 for the Kaufmann family, owners of a department store in Pittsburgh, as a weekend retreat at Bear Run in rural Pennsylvania. Instead of placing the house where the family could look at the waterfall, Wright built it directly above the falls, with concrete terraces cantilevered out over the stream. The design is a celebrated example of his idea of 'organic architecture', in which buildings harmonise with their natural surroundings. The house was given to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy in 1963 and has been open to the public since 1964. In 2019 it became part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site listing eight works by Wright.
