The Full Story
Charles M. Schulz launched Peanuts on 2 October 1950, and Snoopy first appeared two days later. Snoopy was partly inspired by Spike, a black-and-white dog Schulz owned as a boy. Schulz wrote and drew nearly 18,000 Peanuts strips himself over almost 50 years. At its peak the strip appeared in more than 2,600 newspapers worldwide. Schulz died on 12 February 2000, and his final Sunday strip was published the next day.
