The Full Story
Seawise Giant was built in Japan and later enlarged, reaching 458.45 metres in length and a deadweight capacity of about 564,763 tonnes. When fully loaded it was too big to pass through the Suez Canal, the Panama Canal or the English Channel. In 1988, during the Iran–Iraq War, it was bombed by Iraqi aircraft and sank in shallow water. It was refloated, repaired and renamed several times, including Jahre Viking and Knock Nevis. The ship was scrapped at Alang in India in 2010.
