Which is the busiest train station in the world?

Shinjuku Station in Tokyo is recognised by Guinness World Records as the busiest railway station in the world. Before the COVID-19 pandemic it handled roughly 3.5 million passengers every day, more than the entire population of many cities. It is served by more than a dozen railway and subway lines, and it has around 200 exits, which famously confuses visitors. Japan dominates the list of the world’s busiest stations, with Tokyo and Osaka hubs taking most of the top spots. By number of platforms, however, the record belongs to Grand Central Terminal in New York, with 44 platforms serving 67 tracks.
