Which river carries the most water?

The Amazon River discharges more water than any other river on Earth, releasing on average about 209,000 cubic metres of water into the Atlantic Ocean every second. This is roughly as much as the next several largest rivers combined. The Amazon drains a vast basin fed by heavy tropical rainfall, and during the wet season its flow swells enormously. So much fresh water pours out that the ocean is noticeably less salty for over a hundred kilometres offshore. By volume of flow, no river comes close, even though the Nile is slightly longer.
