Which ocean is the deepest?

The Pacific Ocean is both the largest and the deepest of Earth oceans. Within it lies the Mariana Trench, a crescent-shaped scar in the seafloor near Guam that contains the deepest known point on the planet, the Challenger Deep, at roughly 10,935 metres below sea level. That is deeper than Mount Everest is tall; if the mountain were placed in the trench, its peak would still be more than two kilometres underwater. The immense pressure at such depths is over a thousand times that at the surface, enough to crush most submarines. Yet remarkably, life still exists there, including strange deep-sea creatures adapted to the crushing darkness. Only a handful of people have ever descended to the bottom of the Challenger Deep, making it less visited than the surface of the Moon.
