Which is the smallest ocean?

The Arctic Ocean is the smallest of the world’s five oceans, covering roughly 14 million square kilometres around the North Pole. It is also the shallowest, with an average depth of only about 1,200 metres, because much of its floor is wide continental shelf. For much of the year its surface is covered by sea ice, which grows in winter and shrinks in summer. Satellite records show that the late-summer ice minimum has declined by around 13% per decade since 1979. The North Pole itself sits in the middle of the ocean, above water around 4,000 metres deep.
