Which is the largest cat in the world?

The tiger is the largest wild cat species, and the Siberian or Amur tiger of the Russian Far East is traditionally considered its biggest form. Large males can weigh up to about 300 kilograms and measure more than 3 metres from nose to tail tip. Lions are close behind, but tigers are generally heavier and longer. Captive hybrids called ligers, the offspring of a male lion and a female tiger, can grow even bigger, with the liger Hercules weighing more than 400 kilograms. Wild tigers now number only around 5,500, and India is home to about three-quarters of them.
