Which is the heaviest land animal?

The African bush elephant is the heaviest animal living on land today. Adult males usually weigh about 6 tonnes, and the largest can exceed that considerably. The biggest reliably recorded was a male shot in Angola in 1956, estimated at around 10 tonnes and nearly 4 metres tall at the shoulder; it is now displayed at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. An elephant can eat about 150 kilograms of vegetation a day and spends most of its waking hours feeding. Elephants also have the longest pregnancy of any mammal, lasting about 22 months.
