Which Frog Is the Most Poisonous?

The golden poison frog, Phyllobates terribilis, lives in a small area of rainforest on Colombia's Pacific coast and is only about 5 centimetres long. Its skin contains batrachotoxin, one of the most potent natural toxins, which blocks nerve and muscle signals. A single wild frog may carry about a milligram of toxin, enough to kill around ten people. Indigenous Emberá hunters have traditionally rubbed blowgun darts on the frog's back to make them deadly. Frogs raised in captivity are harmless because the toxin comes from the insects they eat in the wild.
