Which country produces the most cocoa?

Ivory Coast, or Côte d’Ivoire, is the world’s largest cocoa producer, typically supplying around 40% of all cocoa beans, or roughly 2 million tonnes a year. Its neighbour Ghana is usually second, and together the two West African countries grow more than half of the world’s cocoa. Most of it is produced by millions of small family farms rather than large plantations. Cocoa trees only thrive in hot, humid regions within about 20 degrees of the equator. Poor harvests in West Africa in 2023 and 2024 sent cocoa prices to record highs of more than $10,000 per tonne.
