Which Country Grows the Most Rice?

China leads the world in rice production, harvesting approximately 212 million tonnes per year — about 28% of the global total. India follows closely at about 195 million tonnes, then Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Vietnam. However, much of China's and India's production is consumed domestically. In terms of exports, India and Thailand are the dominant suppliers, together accounting for over 50% of global rice trade. Rice is the primary food source for over 3.5 billion people worldwide and is cultivated on every continent except Antarctica. The grain requires warm temperatures and abundant water, with traditional paddy farming using flooded fields that also support aquaculture.
