Which animal has the largest heart?

The blue whale, the largest animal that has ever lived, also has the largest heart. A blue whale heart recovered after a whale washed ashore in Newfoundland in 2014 weighed about 180 kilograms and stood roughly 1.5 metres tall. In 2019 scientists attached a sensor to a wild blue whale and found that its heart rate dropped to just two beats per minute during deep dives, rising to around 37 beats per minute at the surface. This extreme slowing helps the whale conserve oxygen underwater. Among land animals, the giraffe has an especially powerful heart of about 11 kilograms, needed to pump blood up its long neck.
