Where is Central Park?

Covering 843 acres, or about 3.4 square kilometres, Central Park is larger than the country of Monaco. Landscape architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux won a design competition in 1858 with their Greensward Plan, and the park was shaped by moving millions of cartloads of soil and rock. Although it looks natural, almost every lake, meadow and woodland was designed by hand. It is home to landmarks such as Bethesda Fountain, Strawberry Fields and the Central Park Zoo. About 42 million visits are made to the park each year, making it one of the most visited urban parks in the United States.
