Where is Bora Bora?

The island is the remains of an extinct volcano, with the jagged twin peaks of Mount Otemanu, 727 metres high, rising from its centre. A barrier reef and ring of small islets called motus enclose a turquoise lagoon that is famous for its clarity. Luxury resorts built overwater bungalows on stilts above the lagoon, and the island became one of the world’s best-known honeymoon destinations. During the Second World War the United States used Bora Bora as a supply base, and some old cannons still remain. The island is home to about 10,000 people.
