Where does the Danube River flow?

The Danube rises in the Black Forest of south-west Germany, where two streams, the Brigach and the Breg, join at Donaueschingen. It then flows east for about 2,850 km, making it the second-longest river in Europe after the Volga. It passes through or along the borders of ten countries, more than any other river in the world: Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine. Four capital cities sit on its banks: Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Belgrade. It ends in the vast Danube Delta on the Black Sea coast of Romania and Ukraine, one of Europe’s most important wetlands.
