Whose studio created Mickey Mouse?

Walt Disney and his chief animator Ub Iwerks created Mickey Mouse in 1928 after Disney lost the rights to an earlier character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Mickey made his public debut in Steamboat Willie on 18 November 1928, one of the first cartoons with fully synchronised sound, and that date is celebrated as his birthday. Walt Disney himself voiced Mickey until 1947. The character became the foundation of an entertainment empire, including Disneyland, which opened in Anaheim, California, on 17 July 1955. The Steamboat Willie version of Mickey entered the US public domain on 1 January 2024.
