Henry VIII ruled England from 1509 to 1547, and his quest for a male heir drove his many marriages. His second wife, Anne Boleyn, mother of Elizabeth I, was beheaded in 1536. Catherine Howard was executed in 1542, and Catherine Parr outlived him.
