Whose online bookstore became Amazon?

Jeff Bezos left a Wall Street job to found the company on 5 July 1994, initially under the name Cadabra, working from the garage of his rented home in Bellevue, Washington. Renamed Amazon after the largest river by volume, the site went live in July 1995 selling books. It went public in May 1997 at 18 dollars a share and gradually expanded into almost every kind of product. In 2006 it launched Amazon Web Services, now one of the largest cloud computing providers in the world. Bezos stepped down as chief executive on 5 July 2021, exactly 27 years after founding the company.
