Whose company created ChatGPT?

OpenAI was founded in December 2015 in San Francisco as a non-profit research lab, with co-founders including Sam Altman, Elon Musk, Greg Brockman and Ilya Sutskever. It released ChatGPT to the public on 30 November 2022. The chatbot reached 1 million users in five days and an estimated 100 million within about two months, making it one of the fastest-growing consumer apps ever. GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer, the type of large language model behind it. Microsoft became a major partner, investing 1 billion dollars in 2019 and billions more in 2023, and by 2025 ChatGPT had hundreds of millions of weekly users.
